The right likes to describe liberals in America these days in terms of "Trump Derangement System," and there's no doubt that we have offered Trump a very low rent quasi-permanent position in our collective psyche.
Right about now there's low volume aggression coming from the Trump administration testing the bounds of baseline civil liberties. First the arrest and disappearance of the Columbia grad student, then over the weekend a couple of raids by Homeland Security teams of dorms rooms at Columbia resulting in no arrests. Also the violent interrogation fo the German green card holder at Logan Airport.
It seems likely that Trump and team are targeting major blue state markets like New York and Boston both because they are hotbeds of prior administration "resistance" and because they can be assured of lots of media coverage. So that Trump gets maximum, outsized leverage out of relatively small and inexpensive actions. If he had tried it in Peoria, there would be fewer eyeballs on it.
It is working.
