Canvassing in Creedmoor

After learning about the absurd 3 constitutional amendments placed on the ballot by Republicans this year, Mary and I saddled up and rode out to Creedmoor to canvass today. Some reflections.

We canvassed a subdivision built in the mid-2000s, full of 1400-2000 square foot houses valued now in the mid-300s per Trulia, based on a small sample size. Very mixed ethnically. Maybe 50% black, 50% white.

Most people didn't come to the door though there were vehicles in the driveways. I don't think there was a single political sign up anywhere, including Trump signs. Zero. The few people we spoke to with much enthusiasm for or serious intent around the election were black. Actually there were a couple of enthusiastic older white Ds, one of whom had been working on hand-addressing post cards earlier in the week.

We talked to one 75-year old white woman, registered Democrat, who said she doubted she'd vote, expressing the "they're all the same" sentiment. Without saying Trump's name, I asked her if she really thought the last couple of years were more of the same. She said yes, she did think that. OK.

There was a small playground and a well-tended baseball field with clear signage stating it was only for HOA members. We parked in the parking lot anyway, because it always seems better not to park in front of people's houses when you're out canvassing. You never know when somebody's gonna have an attitude.
